the spiritual response to personality disorders

At the mind / emotional level, very little can be done for people with personality disorders. But that doesn't mean everyone should just turn the lights off and give up now, because we're yet to discuss the part of the puzzle that changes everything: God.

If you cast your mind back to this post, where I set out the three main reasons why personality disorders are at epidemic proportions, number one on the list was:

Increasingly, people have become disconnected from God, their souls and their spiritual dimension.

That doesn't mean that Cluster 'B' people can't be religious, because unfortunately, the opposite is often true. Many of them, particularly narcissists, view religion as a great way to control people and build their authority and power, demonstrate their superiority and 'perfect' holiness, and guilt others into doing what suits them.

But as I've said a million times already, being 'religious' is not the same as authentically being connected to God.

The problem is this: you can't tell a Cluster 'B' person (especially the religious ones) that they're disconnected spiritually. You fall afoul of the same problem you hit in the therapy sessions, namely that a huge part of the problem is that narcissists et al simply can't accept that they do things wrong, or are to blame for any of the unpleasantness that surrounds them.

But here's the great thing: you can reconnect the personality disorder-ed people in your life back to God, without them even knowing about it. How? By praying for them.

Of course, this is only going to be an option if you yourself are connected to God, and actually believe in Him - which is why atheism and the personality disorder epidemic go hand-in-hand.

You can't get the personality disorder-ed person to agree to do energy medicine techniques to strengthen their spleen (and their ability to feel and act compassionately and responsibly) - but God can.

You can't hack your way through all the defenses, and the lies and the aggression that personality disorder-ed people use to keep themselves feel safe and secure - but God can.

You can't reattach the spiritually-starved, traumatised, hurt soul of a personality disorder-ed person back to its Creator - but God can.

But first, God wants us to ask Him to get involved.

By God, there is a solution to every problem, even ones as intractable, thorny and distressing as narcissism.

In the next and last post on this subject (at least for now...), I'll tell you the true story of a family who left no spiritual stone unturned, in their quest to help their son overcome his narcissism.
