Each one of us has 14 main energy pathways, or meridians, which transports our energy, or the body's life-force, around our body.
Now, until very recently, the idea of people having 'energy meridians' was broadly considered to be some sort of superstitious, Eastern mumbo-jumbo by the more sophisticated people in the West - until a few brave scientists came along, and started doing experiments to prove that energy meridians really do exist, and really can affect your state of health.
Well, the first thing to understand is that the human body is made up of a number of electronic circuits.
The second thing to know is that much of your physical body is made of material that acts as a semiconductor. Semiconductors are between 'conductors' - material that enables the free-flow of electricity through them - and 'insulators' - material that blocks the free-flow of electricity.
Practically-speaking, what this means is that the different parts of your body can turn the electrical impulses they are receiving on and off, at will.
With me so far? Great!
Now, let's find out what the body's electrical current actually does. Western science (or at least, the bit of it that is actually interested in truthfully discovering how the body works) is still trying to figure out all the different pieces of the puzzle. What they've discovered so far is that the body's innate electrical current:
And there's probably a few million more things to add to that list, but science hasn't yet managed to join all the dots up.
So what does all this mean for you, and how can tracing your meridians have any real impact on your sense of wellbeing and physical health? Great question!
When Western scientists started to experiment with the traditional acupuncture meridians, as described by Traditional Chinese Medicine, they discovered that they acted a low-resistance pathways for the flow of electricity around the body.
To put it another way, they discovered that energy meridians are fact, not fiction, and that they do work to get the current, or 'flow' of energy moving around.
The human body vibrates with bioelectricity from top-to-toe; every single cell in your body has a positive and a negative charge, and this vibrating electrical network conducts information and instructions around the whole structure.
The human body is an incredibly-sophisticated semiconducting electric network. Peak mental and physical health depends on all of those connections being maintained, and staying strong and healthy (and let's not forget that the 'Mains' supplier of all this electricity is God, which is why you need to stay plugged-in and connected Upstairs, too.)
To quote the book 'Energy Medicine: The Scientific Basis': 'Complete health corresponds to total interconnection. Accumulated physical and / or emotional trauma impair the connections. When this happens, the body's defense and repair systems become impaired, and disease has a chance to take hold. Acupuncture and other energy therapies restore and balance the vibratory circuitry, with obvious and profound benefits."
To sum it up, the human body is one huge, interconnected electrical network. When the current in a particular area, organ or meridian gets blocked, stagnant or weak, the network is weakened in that area, and if not fixed, emotional and physical issues can follow.
The human hand is electromagnetic, ie, it pulls electric current after it. When you trace your meridians, you're effectively 'pulling' the current through the main energy pathways in your body, and re-establishing the connection, helping your body to function fine, and stay healthy.
And that, in a nutshell, is why it's good to trace your meridians.
