In 1840, a young Swiss naturalist called Louis Agassiz published his new theory of ‘ice ages’, which was based on his observation of the glaciers in the Alps, which could advance or retreat a few feet a year.
Each advance of the glacial ice sheet would shove loose rocks to the side, forming ‘lateral moraines’, while those rocks pushed out in front formed ‘terminal moraines’. When the ice subsequently melted and retreated, these stone ‘moraines’ would - according to Agassiz - clearly show where the ice sheet had reached to, before retreating.
Writing in Etudes sur les glaciers, Agassiz stated:
“The surface of Europe, previously adorned with tropical vegetation and populated by herds of huge elephants, enormous hippopotami, and gigantic carnivore, was suddenly buried under a vast mantle of ice, covering plains, lakes, seas and plateaus.”
ICE AGES HAPPEN OVERNIGHT, NOT OVER A MILLION YEARS
But while modern science, with its axiomatic belief in the interminably slow pace of evolution, immediately rushed to state that these ice ages lasted for many hundreds of thousands, and even millions, of years, Agassiz’ view was that they were catastrophic events: they took the world by surprise, began instantly, and lasted no more than a couple of centuries.
In that same work, Agassiz stated that these ‘mini ice ages’ came to an end when the ignaeous (i.e. volcanic, made of magma) interior of the earth began to heat up again, resulting in a great deal of seismographic activity, and a general ‘warming up’ of the atmosphere as volcanoes belched forth their fire, and new mountain ranges occurred literally overnight.
In Agassiz’ view, the Western Alps were younger than the frozen corpses of the mammoths that were still being dug out - and eaten - in Siberia.
While the proto-evolutionists, with the avowed atheist Charles Lyell at their head, rushed to adopt whichever parts of the ice age theory suited them, they discounted Agassiz assertion that ice ages came about due to catastrophic events, and were relatively short lived affairs.
Lyell conjured up a million year span for what Agassiz had termed the ‘Great Ice Age’ that he estimated had occurred between the Tertiary and Recent period (with absolutely no scientific evidence to back this up), happily claimed that these continental ice sheets were responsible for all those otherwise disturbing erratic boulders being found all over the place, and the evolutionary bandwagon rolled on.
According to Lyell et al, this new ‘ice age’ theory explained how 10,000 ton erratic boulders that clearly hadn’t originated locally had come to be found at the top of cliffs, and across oceans many thousands of miles away: the continental ice sheet had ‘pushed’ them there.
YOU NEED MOUNTAINS TO GET GLACIERS...
But not everyone was convinced.
One of the leading antagonists to theory of evolution, and to Lyell’s explanation of how erratic boulders had somehow been ‘pushed’ up mountains thousands of miles away by continental ice sheets was a man called Roderick Murchison, another leading British geologist and member of the Geological Society who was actually knighted for his contributions to the field.
In 1845, after Murchison had spent many months observing the erratic boulders flung all over the great plains of the Russian empire, Murchison wrote:
“Seeing that there are no mountains whatever from which a glacier can ever have been propelled in southern Sweden, Finland, or north-eastern Russian, and yet these regions are powerfully abraded, scored and polished” -
Something other than a slow-moving continental ice sheet must have caused these phenomena.
Murchison believed that the ‘something’ in question was probably some sort of huge oceanic eruption, or enormous tidal wave, that had perhaps been repeated on more than one occasions.
Again, let’s just pause to make the point that while we do see that ice sheets in the polar regions of the world expand and contract, these small, cyclical incursions and retractions have never been proven to have achieved even a fraction of the actions in the world that the evolutionists have attributed to them.
Just as evolutionists like to argue that ‘micro’ evolution - where a particular plant, organism or animal can and does adapt to its environment in small ways over time - automatically ‘proves’ that amoebas turned into human beings, the same enormous -and completely unproven - jumps in logic are also required for the modern ‘scientific’ approach to ice ages.
Let’s return to 1865, 25 years after Agassiz had published his ‘ice age’ theory to wide acclaim, where the now famous, senior naturalist was suddenly presented with a huge challenge to his theory.
HOW DID GLACIERS MAKE IT DOWN TO EQUATORIAL BRAZIL AND AFRICA, THE HOTTEST PLACES IN THE WORLD?
On a trip to equatorial Brazil, Agassiz noticed that all the things that he’d stated were due to drifting continental sheets, like drift accumulations, scratched rocks erratic boulders, polished stones and fluted valleys, were staring him in the face in one of the very hottest tropical regions of the world.
Agassiz’ woes multiplied, as more reports came in from equatorial Africa showing the same thing, and even more perplexingly, the marks in Africa and Madagascar appeared to show that if an ice sheet had caused them, this ice sheet had spread up from the equator to cover the continent, i.e. in precisely the wrong direction.
These remnants of ice ages past were also found in India, and again seemed to have spread from the equator up across the foothills of the Himalayas, and not the other way around.
Never people to let the facts get in the way of a good (God-less…) theory, the evolutionists did what they always do when faced with uncomfortable information they couldn’t begin to explain: they banished it millions of years into the past.
They decided there must have a number of other ice ages, millions of years ago, in the so-called Permian Age. Still, some rumblings of unhappy conscience still surfaced in the scientific community.
Writing in 'The Origin and History of the Earth’ in 1937, R.T Chamberlin said:
“Some of these huge ice sheets advanced even into the tropics, where their deposits of glacier-borne debris, hundreds of feet in thickness, amaze the geologists who see them. No satisfactory explanation has yet been offered for the extent and location of these extraordinary glaciers… Glaciers, almost unbelievable because of their location and size, certainly didn’t form in deserts.”
The ‘satisfactory explanation’ that would and did explain all these strange markings and other phenomena is that the African, South American and Indian continents had been inundated, on repeated occasions, by catastrophic tidal waves and flood waters that carried many millions and billions of tons of debris, rock, and vegetation before it.
But as that explanation didn’t ‘fit’ with the theory of evolution - despite being a perfect ‘fit’ for the evidence at hand - it wasn’t even considered by the ‘modern’ scientific community.
THE ONE PLACE THE ICE AGE DIDN’T GET TO WAS THE NORTH POLE
Other anomalies also started to accrue to the Ice Age theory, as the 19th century wore on. While Victorian geologists were detecting signs of ice ages throughout the baking hot heat of Africa and the Tropics, strangely, they couldn’t find any trace of them in places like Greenland, the Arctic Circle and Siberia.
Writing in Science in 1942, R.F. Griggs stated:
“The Islands of the Arctic Archipelago were never glaciated. Neither was the interior of Alaska.”
James D. Dana, an American geologist, also noted this bizarre fact, writing:
“It is a remarkable fact that no ice mass covered the low lands of northern Siberia and more than those of Alaska.”
Stranger still, Swiss scientist O.Heer found the fossilized remains of magnolia trees and fig trees whilst examining the plant fossils found in the Arctic region, during the 1860s, which he documented in his work called Flora Arctica Fossilis, published in 1868.
To quote Velikovsky:
“Forests of exotic trees and groves of juicy, subtropical plants grew in a land that lies deep in the cold Arctic and is immersed yearly in a continuous polar night of six months’ duration.”
And these wasn’t the only strange fossils that Heer was digging up in the Arctic circle. In Spitsbergen, in the Arctic Ocean, he found pines, cypresses, elms, hazels - and even, the fossilized remains of water lilies.
Spitsbergen also disgorged a bed of coal, 30 feet thick, which bore silent witness to the fact that the area must have luxuriantly and abundantly forested, at some point in its past. In 1882, Archibald Geikie neatly summed up the conundrum in his Textbook of Geology:
“When we remember that this vegetation grew luxuriantly within 8° 15’ of the North Pole, in a region which is in darkness for half of the year, and is now almost continuously buried under snow and ice, we can realize the difficulty of the problem in the distribution of the climate which these facts present to the geologist.”
If that wasn’t bad enough, vast coral reefs were also found in Spitzbergen, as well as around Greenland, Alaska and Northern Canada, now completely covered with snow and ice.
Corals only grow in the most temperate climates in the world. It’s out of the question that coral reefs would grow in a cool area of the world, let alone one where it’s permanent night for six months of the year and nearly always frozen.
How does evolution explain Spitsbergen?
It can’t. So the evolutionists pull their favorite stunt, and simply push the problem off to many millions, and even billions ago into the past. What can’t be explained by scientific rigor can be banished by the passage of time.
Yet there is an explanation, one that has been brought down in authentic Jewish sources over the last 5,000 years, and also hinted at by modern science itself.
Compare this description found in ‘The Mysteries of Creation’, By Rabbi Dovid Brown, which talks about ‘World Number 3’ that existed within the last 5777 years, and lasted between the time of Enosh to Noah’s flood:
“Sforno (Parshat Noach 8:22) explains that:
“So long as the axis of rotation remains in nearly its present position relative to the plane of the earth’s orbit around the sun, the outer limit of the atmosphere in tropical regions must receive more of the sun’s heat than the middle latitudes, and the middle latitudes more than the polar regions. This is an invariable law…It is much more difficult to think of a cause which will raise the temperature of polar regions by some 30° F, or more, while leaving that of equatorial regions almost unchanged” - CEP Brooks, Climate through the Ages, 1949
SUMMING UP THIS SECTION:
Evolution and ‘modern’ science has no explanation for how equatorial regions were apparently covered by icy glaciers in the past while the Arctic and Siberia apparently weren’t; or why tropical plants like magnolias and water lilies once grew in the frozen wasteland of Greenland, or how luxurious forests once grew in the heart of the permanently frozen Arctic circle.
By contrast, authentic Jewish sources and commentators have been accurately discussing these matters for thousands of years.
It’s clear that the planet’s axis of rotation has shifted over the last few thousand years, as clearly set out by these authentic Jewish sources.
As to HOW this happened in alignment with laws of nature, we will get to that part of the puzzle in due course. Before then, there’s still a lot more scientific evidence that I want to present to you, first.
One of the major 'foundations' of modern science is the axiomatic belief that the world has continued on, unchanging, for billions of years, and that all processes on earth - from ice ages, to mountain ranges forming, to so-called 'evolution' - all took billions and billions of years to occur.
As this is poppycock, there is ABSOLUTELY NO scientific proof to back up this belief in the principle of 'uniformity', to give it its proper scientific name. But there is tons and tons of evidence that points in exactly the opposite direction, i.e. that massive changes to the earth have occurred within the last 6,000 years or so, and that these changes have been swift and instantaneous.
Read on to see how modern science has been ignoring the evidence that argues AGAINST evolution and the principle of uniformity, for well over 150 years....
In 1940, F. Rainey from the University of Alaska described a curious scene unfolding along the banks of the Tanana River gold rush occurring at that time:
“Wide cuts, often several miles in length and sometimes as much as 140 ft in depth are now being sluiced out along stream valleys tributary to the Tanana in the Fairbanks District. In order to reach gold-bearing gravel bed and overburden of frozen silt or ‘muck’ is removed with hydraulic giants. This ‘muck’ contains enormous numbers of frozen bones of extinct animals such as the mammoth, mastodon, super-bison and horse.”
All these animals were shown to have died in recent times, measured in a few thousands, and not millions of years, even according to standard Scientific dating methods. Rainey found worked flints in this ‘muck’, including spear points that were found in situ stabbed through the jaw of a lion, or the tusk of a mammoth. He concluded that: “men were contemporary with extinct animals in Alaska.”
F.C. Hibben from the University of Mexico takes up the story:
“Although the formation of the deposits of muck is not clear, there is ample evidence that at least portions of this material were deposited under catastrophic conditions. Mammal remains are for the most part dismembered and disarticulated, even though some fragments yet retain, in their frozen state, portions of ligaments, skin, hair and flesh. Twisted and torn trees are piled in splintered masses… At least four considerable layers of volcanic ash may be traced in these deposits, although they are extremely warped and distorted.”
Clearly, whatever killed and dismembered millions of these animals, and uprooted and splintered millions of trees at the same time, was not a ‘gentle accretion of mud’, as the evolutionists would have us believe - and all this happened just a few thousand years ago, and was witnessed by human beings.
The Liakhov Islands are located 600 miles inside the Polar Circle, to the north of Siberia. Liakhov reported to his sovereign, Russia’s Catherine II that: “Such was the enormous quantity of mammoths’ remains that it seemed that the island was actually composed of the bones and tusks of elephants, cemented together by icy sand.”
The Islands of New Siberia were discovered in 1805-6, and were similarly found to be packed full of the remains of creatures who thrive in hot climates: “The soil of these desolate islands is absolutely packed full of the bones of elephants and rhinoceroses in astonishing numbers.”
How did millions of sun-loving elephants and rhinoceroses meet their death, and get deep-frozen, in Siberia? Some of these creatures were recovered with their eyeballs still intact: they were flash frozen in a matter of hours after dying.
Geologist geologist J.D. Dana wrote about this discovery:
“The encasing in ice of huge elephants, and the perfect preservation of the flesh, shows that the cold finally became suddenly extreme, as of a single winter’s night, and knew no relenting afterward.”
Writing in 1910, a British researcher called Whitley marveled that: “neither trees, nor shrubs, not bushes, exist… and yet the bones of elephants, rhinoceroses, buffaloes and horses are found in this icy wilderness in numbers which defy all calculation.”
But that wasn’t the only mystery posed by the New Siberian Islands. Explorers also found a number of what they termed ‘wood hills’, which ranged between 250-300 ft high, and contained the petrified trunks of millions of uprooted trees, cemented together by frozen sand, and layered with millions of splintered and crushed animal skeletons.
In 1848, German scientist G.A. Erman wrote:
“On the summit of the hills, they [the tree trunks] lie flung one upon another in the wildest disorder, forced upright in spite of gravitation, and with their tops broken off or crush, as if they had been thrown with great violence from the south on a bank, and there heaped up.”
Immanuel Velikovsky explains how this occurred:
“A hurricane, apparently, uprooted the trees of Siberia and flung them to the extreme North; mountainous waves of the ocean piled them in huge hills, and some agent of a bituminous nature transformed them into charcoal, either before or after they were deposited and cemented in drifted masses of sand that became baked in sandstone.”
But what could batter, drown, burn and then bake together such masses of uprooted forests and animals, and do it so quickly that these remains would freeze perfectly solid in just a few hours?
Evolution has no answer for this. But there is a natural explanation that fits exactly with what we’ve been discussing on this blog and over on Emunaroma, about how the earth was really formed, and when.
‘Erratic boulders’ is the name given to rocks that have a different formation, or composition, from the places where they are found. For example, the erratic boulder called ‘Pierre a Martin’ measures more than 10,000 cubic feet, and is to be found on the Jura Mountain range above Lake Geneva, in Switzerland.
Yet it comes from the Alps, many miles distant. How did ‘Pierre a Martin’ get up a mountain, tens of miles away?
How did so many ‘erractic boulders’ originating in Norway somehow travel across the sea to come to rest on the British coastline, and also high up in the Harz mountains, in Central Germany?
The same can be asked of large chunks of rock that somehow travelled from Finland over to the Carpathians, and even to Moscow, while other blocks of granite from Canada were ripped off and scattered all over Maine, New York, Massachusetts and Ohio, to name but a few - and are frequently found on the tops of the highest mountain ranges.
How did they get there?
Some of these stones weigh 10,000 tons or more, like that in Warren County, Ohio (13,500 tons), while the chalk stone erratic boulder in Malmo, Sweden measures three miles long. Even today, mankind hasn’t got the sort of technology that would enable it to transport a three mile long rock overland.
GEORGES CUVIER, FOUNDING FATHER OF PALEONTOLOGY
French naturalist Georges Cuvier was the founding father of paleontology (the study of fossil bones). In 1827, after spending many a long month studying the gypsum deposits located in Montmatre in Paris, and elsewhere in France, he wrote that:
“It has frequently happened that lands which have been laid dry have been covered again by the waters, in consequence either of their being engulfed in the abyss, or of the sea having merely risen over them…These repeated eruptions and retreats of the sea have been neither slow nor gradual; on the contrary, most of the catastrophes that have occasioned them have been sudden…
“Life has often been disturbed on this earth by terrific events. Numberless living beings have been the victims of these catastrophes; some, which inhabited the dry land, have been swallowed up by inundations; others, which peopled the waters, have been laid dry, their very races have been extinguished forever.”
The limestone deposits that Cuvier was examining painted a clear picture of large swathes of what is now France being deep underwater before becoming a land swarming with reptiles, before again being submerged under the waves and becoming home to marine life, then once again becoming land, this time populated by mammals - and so the cycle repeated itself again.
“Admitting that there has been a gradual diminution of the waters; that the sea has transported solid matter in all directions; that the temperature of the globe is either diminishing or increasing - none of these cases could have overturned our strata, enveloped large animals in ice, together with their flesh and skin, laid dry marine [animals]… and lastly, destroyed numerous species, and even entire genera.”
Cuvier’s observation is still wholly applicable today. So what did cause all these things to happen?
(We already know WHO caused these things to happen, i.e. God, the Creator of the world, and why, as set out by our Midrashim. We also know how many times the strata were overturned before man came on the scene, i.e. 974 times, plus at least a couple more timeS in the last 5777 years, during the time of Enosh, and during the time of Noah’s flood. But it’s amazing to see that the scientific evidence increasingly stacks up IN FAVOR of the genuine, Jewish account of the planet’s dramatic history. And there’s still so much more to come…)
TIGER REMAINS IN YORKSHIRE CAVES
William Buckland was a professor of geology at Oxford University at the beginning of the 19th century. In 1823, he published a work called ‘Relics of the Flood’, which detailed a number of strange findings that he attributed to some massive, world-wide ‘deluge’ or natural disaster.
For example, Buckland had excavated a cave in Kirkdale, Yorkshire, that was at an elevation of 80 foot, which contained the teeth and bones of a veritable zoo, including rhinoceroses, hippotamuses, horses, deer, tigers, bears, wolves, hyenas, foxes, hares, rabbits, pigeons, larks and ducks.
How did this conglomeration of animals come to be in the United Kingdom in the first place, and what where they doing crushed together in a cave in Yorkshire?
The same question could be asked about the group of hippopotamus, reindeer and mammoth found at Brentford, in the South East of England, the reindeers and grizzly bears that were at Cefn in Wales, and the reindeers, cave lions and hyenas that were found crushed together in a cave in Bleadon, Somerset.
To quote Velikovsky again: “According to the prophecy of Isaiah (11:6) in messianic times to come the lion and the calf would pasture together. But even prophetic vision hasn’t conceived of a reindeer from snow-covered Lapland and a hippopotamus from the tropical Congo River living together on the British Isles.”
But while these animals certainly died together, and their bones were entombed together, it’s highly unlikely that they actually lived together for any length of time. Buckland asserted that he was: “nearly certain that if any change of climate has taken place, it took place suddenly.”
Like Cuvier before him, Buckland was of the opinion that the flood, or natural disaster that caused these strange burial groupings must have occurred no more than 5000-6000 years previously.
He concluded: “What the cause was, whether a change in the inclination of the earth’s axis, or the near approach of a comet, or any other cause or combination of causes purely astronomical, is a question the discussion of which is foreign to the object of the present memoir.”
THE MASS EXTINCTION OF FISH LIFE
At the same time that the Victorian researchers were amassing accounts of the violent, dramatic and almost instant death of millions of animals on land, the same picture was also emerging from the depths of the oceans, too.
Writing in 1865, Hugh Miller examined the Old Red Sandstone strata located in Northern Scotland, and noted that:
“some terrible catastrophe involved the sudden destruction of fish of an area at least a hundred miles from boundary to boundary, perhaps much more… [the remains] exhibit unequivocally the marks of violent death…. The remains too, appear to have suffered nothing from the after-attacks of predaceous fish; none such seem to have survived. The record is one of destruction, at once widely spread and total….”
Again, this was not an unusual scene. Writing about what he’d seen in northern Italy, Buckland wrote:
“The circumstances under which the fossil fishes are found at Monte Bolca seem to indicate that they perished suddenly…All these fishes must have died suddenly… and have been speedily buried in the calcareous sediment.”
The same held true for fish deposits found in the German Harz Mountains, and in Saarbrucken, and Oensingen in Switzerland, and Aix-en-Provence in France, and also in Ohio, Michigan, Arizona and California.
Millions upon millions of fish died a sudden, agonizing death, and then were instantly buried and ‘fossilised’ by sand and gravel as a violent upheaval pulled the sea bottom up out of the ocean, and turned their formerly watery environment into dry land.
TO SUM THIS BIT UP:
While modern science likes to pretend that the world is many millions of years old, and that nothing ‘dramatic’ ever occurred, and certainly not within a few thousand years of our present time, and certainly not instantly, the scientific evidence demonstrating the exact opposite is literally found all over the world, in the fossil record.
Land became sea, and sea became land, repeatedly, literally overnight. Mountains became valleys, and vice-versa, instantly. Whole swathes of formerly tropical, lush countryside was destroyed, petrified and then instantly flash-frozen - and much of this was witnessed by modern man.
So far, the scientific evidence is clearly showing score one for the Torah’s account of the history of the world, and score zero for evolution, and modern science’s theories of what occurred, when, and how.
But there is still a huge amount of additional scientific evidence that we need to enter into the record, in the next few posts.
To be continued…
Ah, where to start with this subject? There are so many false ‘gods’ at this point - false narratives, falsified facts, false pictures of reality, false assumptions, faulty theories - that it could really be a life-long work just to start skimming off the first layer.
Still, every journey begins with the first step, and every story begins with the first word, so let’s begin with the false ‘god’ of Radiocarbon Dating.
If you believe the scientists, radiocarbon dating is an infallible method of measuring the age of artifacts, plant life, archaeological, human and animal remains, remnants of previous civilization and epochs on earth.
The basic idea behind radiocarbon dating is that it ‘works’ by measuring how much radioactive, or ‘radio’ carbon (14C) is released into the atmosphere over a certain period of time, as the carbon (12C) contained in the organic material being studied degrades and decomposes.
Radiocarbon dating was the brainchild of one Willard F. Libby, who published his treatise on radiocarbon dating in 1952 - and clearly stated the limitations of radiocarbon Dating right up front, as honest scientists were once wont to do.
Libby made the following observations about the accuracy of the method:
1) The atmosphere, biosphere and the hydrosphere (oceans) are the three reservoirs of radiocarbon on earth, with the seas by far and away containing the greatest concentration of radiocarbon.
If the quantity of water in the hydrosphere had changed substantially over the last 40,000 years (to use Libby’s own chronology), and / or the amount or carbon diluted in the oceans had substantially changed over this time period then radiocarbon dating wouldn’t return an accurate result.
(Park all these bits of info in the back of your brain as we go along, we’ll sum it all up neatly at the end.)
2) If the quantity and / or intensity of cosmic rays (another way of describing the particles of energy released by the sun and other celestial bodies, that are constantly bombarding the earth and which are part of our space weather) had substantially changed of this same period of time, then again radiocarbon dating wouldn’t return an accurate result.
Of course, at the time that Libby was doing his research, no-one in the hallowed halls of science doubted for a moment that the world was billions, even trillions of years old, and that the most exciting event that had happened to the planet in the last 50,000 years was just a very slow accretion of mud, well on the way to forming the next Mount Everest in a few more billion years… (sarcasm mine).
RADIOCARBON DATING RETURNS SOME INCREASINGLY ODD RESULTS
But the truth is that right from the start, radiocarbon dating started to return some very odd results.
For example, when wood grown in the 20th century was radiocarbon dated, it constantly appeared to be ‘older’ than wood from the 19th century. This was explained away, by some guy called Suess, who claimed that mass industrial burning of fossil fuels like coal and oil had changed the ratio between carbon and radiocarbon in the biosphere.
So henceforth, any human remains, animal parts or vegetation from the 20th century onwards would show up as being ‘older’, according to standard radiocarbon dating techniques, than stuff that actually preceded it by a century, or more, according to the calendar.
But never mind! Radiocarbon was still a peerlessly accurate way of dating everything else in the world !!! (sarcasm mine).
Which is when the next set of awkward data started to show up - in droves - that showed that radiocarbon dates were often between 500-700 years out, according to what was presumed to be the fixed historical date of the organic matter being tested.
This was particularly the case with Egyptian artifacts and the standard chronology assigned to ancient Egypt. This perplexing situation suggested that either, the standard chronology being used by Egyptologists was completely ‘off’, or the radiocarbon dating method was inaccurate.
Both views were actually true, but for different reasons.
Over the very short term, i.e. the last 4,000 years or so, radiocarbon dating is actually fairly accurate. Which is when science started to stumble over other awkward ‘data’ from radiocarbon experiments, including some which showed:
1) The last so-called ‘ice-age’ actually only occurred 3,500 years ago (Rubin and Suess, Geological Survey of the USA.)
2) Oil, which science claims takes millions of years to form, was radiocarbon dated by PV Smith of the Esso Research Lab in 1950 at a petroleum-bearing formation off the Gulf, who reported the ‘surprising’ discovery that it was formed in what’s called ‘Recent’ sediment, and therefore “must have been deposited in the last 9,200 (sic) years.”
(Again, set aside the Torah’s (accurate!) dating of the world for now. We’re just trying to show here that even according to the scientists’ own methods and gauge of time, so many of the scientific theories about life on our planet are just plain wrong.)
How could science explain this contradiction?
(The short answer is that they couldn’t, so they hastily shelved any of the radiocarbon data that didn’t ‘fit’ with their preconceived notions, across a whole bunch of disciplines.)
But if that wasn’t enough to think about, there was another huge problem with the radiocarbon dating method: The world has been through many, enormously dramatic natural upheavals and cataclysms since it was created, 5,777 years ago.
Authentic Jewish sources clearly spell this out (see THIS article) - as do many other 'ancient' traditions from other civilisations that modern science likes to dismiss as imaginative hogwash. Let’s very briefly sum up the main points that are covered more detail in that article, before we continue:
1) GOD CREATED 974 WORLDS BEFORE THIS ONE.
There were 974 generations and worlds created BEFORE our current one, in a process that lasted 2,000 years.
2) PREVIOUSLY, WHENEVER GOD DESTROYED ONE OF THESE 974 WORLDS, HE DID THAT BY OVERTURNING THE EARTH FROM THE T’HOM, I.E., FROM THE DEPTH OF THE WATER TABLE
God destroyed the previous 974 generations by flipping the earth’s crust over from the water table, completely destroying all life on the planet in an instant, and returning the world to TOHU AND BOHU, the Hebrew terms for chaos and ‘nothingness’.
3) GOD WILL CHANGE PLANET EARTH (OUR EXISTING ONE) 7 TIMES BEFORE MOSHIACH COMES
Those seven world are:
World 1: Adam and Eve (Year 1 in the Hebrew calendar, 5777 years ago)
Midrash (Bereishit Rabba 10:4) tells us:
Before Adam HaRishon sinned, the heavenly bodies had shorter and quicker orbits. Once man sinned, God caused the celestial orbs to travel in longer and slower circuits. Since then, the apparent circuit of the sun takes 12 months, the orbit of the moon, just under thirty days, etc
Rav Dovid Brown explains:
“In order for the solar year to have been less than 12 months, the earth would necessarily have been closer to the sun that it is now…If the earth was closer to the sun, the energy received from the sun would be greater…greater energy would result in a more powerful earth with capabilities inconceivable to us…The loss of this greater energy would result in a weaker earth and inferior beings inhabiting it.”
To put this another way, the intensity of cosmic rays bombarding planet earth DEFINITELY CHANGED, from current norms, when Adam and Eve were around.
World 2: From Adam to Enosh (Year 1 to Year 1140 in the Hebrew calendar, when Enosh died)
There was a partial flood of the world at this time, and also new mountain ranges sprang up overnight, undoubtedly due to ‘action at a distance’ effects from a passing planet-sized comet or celestial body. Again, this would dramatically affect the atmosphere, biosphere and hydrosphere, rendering modern radiocarbon dating measurements obsolete.
World 3: Enosh to Noah’s flood (Year 1140 - Year 1656 in the Hebrew calendar)
Sforno (Parshat Noach 8:22) explains that:
Before the mabbul (Noah’s flood), the apparent circuit of the sun was directly around the equator.
The change in the attitude of the earth after the mabbul, so that the earth faces the sun at in inclination of the axis, is the cause of the varying seasons.
Before the mabbul, the climate was perpetually warm due to the sun striking the earth directly at the equator. That environment was extraordinarily robust compared to the modern world’s, and the earth had greater energy in all its members, mineral, vegetable, animal and human.
Again, clearly the cosmic rays bombarding the planet during this period weren’t occurring at the same relatively ‘fixed’ levels and intensity observed in more modern times.
World 4: The Mabbul (Noah’s flood) (Year 1656 in the Hebrew calendar, 4121 years ago)
Geologically: A foot of the earth’s topsoil is washed away, the rest of the earth is ‘mixed’ with boiling water that contains sulphur, polluting the earth’s ground and weakening it for the rest of the world’s natural lifespan.
Also, the earth received NO ENERGY from the celestial bodies throughout this time, also severely weakening its ability to produce food and support life.
World 5 - aging, physical degeneration and illness (Beginning around the year 2000 in the Hebrew calendar)
The Midrash (in Pesikta D’Rav Kahana, 22) tells us:
“When Yitzhak was born [in 2048], God increased the light emitted by the heavenly luminaries.”
The Gemara in Tractate Chullin, 91B, also explains how the sun changed its course twice, during the lifetime of Yaacov Avinu (who was born in 2108).
And then there were other enormous upheavals too, at the time of Moses and the Israelite exodus from ancient Egypt.
These astronomical changes brought about changes in the cosmic radiation bombarding planet Earth that had direct and immediate results on how the human body aged, degenerated and became ill, from that point on - all of which is born out by the latest findings in bio-physics.
And all these events also affected the fundamental basis for the accuracy of radiocarbon dating.
The last major changes to the physical nature of the world occurred in the time of King Hezekiah (who ruled for 29 years, around Year 3200 in the Hebrew calendar).
In this particular instance, the Midrash in Esther Rabba (3:1) explains that the world ‘gained’ five hours as a result of this astronomical shift, as measured by the ancient sun-clock of Ahaz.
THE WORLD HAS CHANGED, FUNDAMENTALLY, AT LEAST SIX TIMES IN THE LAST 5777 YEARS
Which is why radiocarbon dating simply doesn’t work, accurately, for anything going back more than around 4,100 years.
That’s also why radiocarbon dating happily assigns dates in the millions (and even billions…) of years to organic matter that is actually only maximally 8,000 years’ old (including the Torah’s assignment of 2000 years to the 974 worlds that preceded ours), because it’s working on the twin assumptions stated at the beginning that radiocarbon decays today at the same rate it always has - which is simply not true!
To quote Immanuel Velikovsky, who painstakingly pieced together so much of the scientific evidence that clearly shows that the events described above did occur, and have left innumerable traces even today:
“Bursts of cosmic rays and of electrical discharges on an interplanetary scale would make organic life surviving the catastrophes much richer in radiocarbon.” So any radiocarbon test would date these remains as being much younger than they actually are.
At the same time: “If invasion of the terrestrial atmosphere by ‘dead’ (non-radioactive) carbon from volcanic eruptions, meteoric dust, burning oil and coal and centuries-old forests predominated the picture, than the changed balance of radioactive and radio-inert carbon would make everything in the decades following the events appear much older.”
And on Noah’s flood specifically, Velikovsky writes that: “The Deluge increased the water basin, or hydrosphere, on earth… It’s quite possible that the volume of water was more than doubled on earth in this one cataclysm.”
STOPPING THE CRITICS IN THEIR TRACK
At this point in the story, the people who like to believe that the world is 14 billion years old (at least) and who have devoted their lives to the church and theology of evolution, and who hate even the suggestion that God might actually exist, and that the Torah is actually true, will start jumping up and down and playing their ‘scientific evidence’ card.
“Where’s the evidence for these statements?” they’ll demand. “Where’s the scientific proof for this heresy that radiocarbon dating is unreliable?!”
(As a side note, if you have two months spare I highly recommend reading through the whole of Immanuel Velikovsky’s collected works on this subject, but at the very least his epic ‘Earth in Upheaval’.)
I’m guessing you don’t have that much time to spare, so this is your lucky day: I’m going to start summarizing a lot of the evidence that shows, incontrovertibly, that the earth underwent a number of enormous upheavals within the last 5,000 years.
It’s scary reading, especially if you don’t believe in God, or don’t want to believe in God, which is usually the real problem.
But scientific evidence is scientific evidence, after all, and should be admitted into the records of discussion. So we’ll pick this back up in the next post, BH.
(See the following sources: Chagiga 13b, Midrash Bereishit Rabba 3:7, Midrash Tehillim 34:1. Zohar Bereshit 25a).
Midrash Tanchuma (Yitro 14) tells us: “When God sought to give the Torah He first offered it to all the nations other than Yisroel, but they refused it. He wanted to return the world to its dimension of water. When Yisroel accepted the Torah, the world was stabilised.”
 Pirkay d’Rabbi Eliezer (18) says:
God created seven worlds, or which his favorite is the last. Six of them to come and go, and one which is pure Shabbat.

James Oschman, PhD, is one of the most prolific, and most simple-to-understand scientists who writes about the scientific basis for energy (i.e. electro-magnetic) medicine. Oschman has written a number of books, and even more papers, but his paper called: Assume a Spherical Cow: The role of free or mobile electrons in bodywork, energetic and movement therapies, is a great introduction to the whole idea.
You can see the paper for yourself HERE (scroll down to the bottom of the page), and I highly recommend reading it if you’re at all interested in this subject, but here’s the main points:
To quote Oschman: “Virtually every modern disease, including the diseases usually tied to aging, have been linked with chronic inflammation.”
To put this into more plain English, earthing the body means that that there are more ‘free’ electrons available to bind to - and neutralize - the free radicals that can do so much harm to human health.
To find that out, you’ll have to read Oschman’s paper for yourself… But take heart, because it’s an easy read and well worth the effort.
One of the things that critics of energy medicine, and proponents of Western medicine, like to argue VERY LOUDLY is that there’s no scientific basis for energy, or ‘electro-magnetic’ medicine.
This is wrong on a number of counts, but the first thing to say that cannot be overstressed is that every piece of interesting research stretching back 100 years that does appear to prove the electro-magnetic basis of biology and human health has been completely ignored by the medical establishment - at best.
At worst, because electro-magnetic medicine appears to be so fundamentally challenging to people raised with molecular biology as the last word, many of these more open-minded scientific researchers have also had their reputations soundly trashed, for coming up with facts and research that challenges the existing paradigm.
And yet, some brave souls continue to research the subject, (particularly in the former Soviet countries, were the bias against electro-medicine never took hold) and more and more of them are contributing some stunning information to the picture of how human health actually works.
One such researcher is Abraham Liboff, PhD, a physics professor at Oakland University. In a research paper called ‘Toward an Electromagnetic Paradigm for Biology and Medicine’, written in 2004, Liboff wrote that:
“Simply stated, it’s possible to view the living system as an electromagnetic entity, with the response of the system to a given electric or magnetic signal as an outcome expected on the basis of physical law. The familiar hormonal and enzymatic effects [that are the basis of Western medicine and molecular biology] still occur, but in this new approach these are merely associated changes in the system.”
(Don’t worry, I’ll sum everything up in plain English in a minute. But it’s important to see this stuff in situ.)
Liboff then continues:
“There are likely no more than four types of forces in the universe, one of which is the gravitational and another the electro-magnetic…the electro-magnetic force is the underlying reason for life…life is an interactive assembly of polymers.”
And then, he identifies what could be called the ‘electro-magnetic’ sequence of life:
“One merely has to consider the sequence of increasingly complex systems, each necessitated by the existence of the electromagnetic force, a sequence that leads directly to life: electrons, hadrons, atoms, molecules, polymers, living things.”
The last thing to take from Liboff, from now, is his statement that:
“The organization of organisms may be electrically mediated….The gestalt of the body’s physiological state - homeostasis, metabolic turnover, respiration, enzymatic rates - is no more than an intertwined system that can be represented by a single electro-magnetic field.”
There’s plenty more to say on this issue (and I’m planning to bring more of the hard science to share with you, here on the blog) - but you can sum up what Professor Liboff is telling us like this:

In a previous post, I touched on the latest Quantum Physics idea that all solid matter, including the human body, is simply energy, or light, that's been slowed down.
This idea has enormous implications for health care and particularly, preventative and holistic medicine. But before we can start to get to grips with what they are, we first need to have a better understanding of how all the different layers of 'light' or energy that influence, affect and actually are a human being, relate to each other, and to our spiritual, emotional and physical health.
Let's jump away from Quantum Physics for a moment, and jump into the Kabbalah, or Jewish esoteric thought, instead (although the more science is discovering about how the world really works the more the two disciplines are increasingly saying the same things.)
The 5 levels of soul
According to Kabbalah, each human being consists of five level of soul, and I'm defining soul here as the Divine Light that energises and animates every single one of us.
The highest two layers of our soul are effectively off-limits to us; they influence us and affect us, but can't be damaged, depleted or destroyed by our negative actions, behaviours and thoughts.
The remaining three levels of soul are defined as follows, in the Jewish esoteric tradition:
Neshama - is the third of the five levels of soul, and reflects our spiritual essence and mind.
Ruach - is the second of the five levels of soul, and is associated with our emotions and feelings.
Nefesh - is the first, or most basic, level of soul, and is associated with our body and our animal life force, ie, the spiritual energy that keeps us breathing, eating and sleeping, and keeps us alive, physically.
What does all this have to do with Quantum Physics, and your healthcare?
Let's see if I can answer it as simply as possible.
The general purpose of humanity is to work on ourselves, refine our souls (across all levels) and get closer to God and to living the lives God designed us to have.
When we act, think, behave and live in alignment with God's 'plan' for us, whatever that might be, all five levels of soul, or Divine Light, are in perfect harmony with each other, and in turn, with the Creator.
Maximum energy, soul-juice and Divine Light is flowing down the pipes, and everything is working the way it should be. But when we stop acting, thinking, behaving and living in alignment with God's blueprint, it causes spiritual or 'energetic' disruptions across all five levels of soul.
Initially, that could mean a subtle disconnect occurs between you, and your upper two levels of soul. If the disconnect continues, the next 'soul level' to get affected is the neshama, that's directly related to your mind and spiritual abilities.
If it's not fixed then, the disconnect continues to fissure downwards, until it shows up as problems in your ruach, ie your emotions and feelings. Typically, this can show up as things like anxiety, worry, stress, sadness, depression, hatred and angry - ie, a whole slew of negative emotions that can severely affect your quality of life.
If the disconnect isn't turned around at that point, then the last and final level of 'Divine Light' to get affected is the physical body. When that happens, you'll get sick, ill, or exhausted, God-forbid.
This is a ridiculous over-simplification of how all this stuff really works, because there are always a huge number of Divine considerations involved in any individual's suffering or ill-health.
But the basic idea holds true, and the basic idea is this:
If you deal with the 'disconnect' or disrupted energy pattern at the highest level of Divine Light or soul possible, then nine times out of ten, you'll avoid the serious illness or physical problem.
Because our essence, even in the physical world as defined and described by Quantum Physics, is Divine light. That Divine Light is just 'slowed down' to become a body. So if you deal with problems at the higher levels of light, or soul, ie, at the spiritual and emotional levels, they don't need to manifest as illnesses.
There are huge amounts to say about all this, but for now let's end with this: many alternative or holistic therapies are already dealing with issues and 'disconnects' at the higher levels of soul and emotion.
But the key to getting them to work as effectively as possible is to not stop there, in the middle of the party, but to work on re-connecting all five levels of the human soul back to its true Source of healing and Divine Light, ie, God.
One of the biggest obstacles to grasping the fact that human health care depends on body, mind and soul is Newtonian physics.
Sir Isaac Newton, for those who don't know, was a mathematical genius and 'big thinker' who worked out the basic laws of gravity by being bonked on the head by a falling apple.
Newton set out the basic building blocks of physical science, or 'physics', which was good going for 400 years' ago, but in 2015, is causing no end of trouble.
The problem, in a nutshell, is this:
Newtonian Physics is based on the principle that:
The human body (and all other physicality) is made up of solid physical matter.
When you apply this thinking to healthcare, you get an approach based on balancing chemical equations (ie, drugs) and cutting out the bits that don't work anymore (ie, surgery).
So far so good. So what's the problem?
The problem is, that our understanding of how the world really works has moved on, most notably with Einstein's groundbreaking idea that e=mc2. That formula is around a 100 years' old now, but humanity is still seriously struggling to internalise the profound message it's teaching us.
According to Quantum Physics, what e=mc2 is really teaching us is that energy - or God - is really all there is.
Even matter is just packets of Divine energy, or light, that has been 'slowed down', and is vibrating at a much slower rate. That's what gives people and stuff an appearance of being 'solid', physical beings - but what we experience with our physical senses is only part of the story.
People are really Divine energy, or light, slowed down to become 'Moshe' or 'Rachel' or 'Bertha'.
This isn't news for Jews (or at least, it shouldn't be.)
Back in the Garden of Eden, our holy sources taught us that Adam and Eve were beings of light, so translucent and magnificent that anyone who tried to stare at those original human beings would have been blinded by the light.
The Hebrew word for light is 'or', spelt with the letter aleph.
After the sin, we're told that God came and made Adam and Eve different garments of 'or', this time spelt with an ayin, which is usually translated as 'leather'.
To sum up, our Divine light got covered up by our skin, making it much harder for us to access and understand our spiritual side.
Now, what does all that have to do with the real reasons why you've got a cough, or a stomach ache, or a headache? And what are the implications of e=mc2 for a believing Jewish approach to bodies and healthcare?
God-willing, we'll look at these issues in more detail in the next post.
A little while ago, I came across a couple of very interesting experiments, designed to test whether prayer actually 'worked', when it came to healing illnesses and other health issues.
(The experiments were written up in a book called 'Healing Words', by Larry Dossey, MD).
In the first experiment, researchers at the Spindrift research lab in Oregon used an alcohol rinse to half-kill a mould culture they were growing.
Then, they put a string down the middle of the culture dish, and asked half their volunteers to pray in a 'directed' way for side A of the mould, (ie, requesting a specific outcome) and the other volunteers to pray in a 'nondirected' way for Side B, (ie, simply requesting whatever outcome would be best, without specifying it.)
Nothing much happened on Side A, but the mould on Side B, started multiplying at a rate of knots, and quickly sprang back to life.
In repeated experiments, the Spindrift researchers found that: "prayer works, and that both methods are effective. But…the nondirected technique appeared quantitatively more effective, frequently yielding results that were twice as great, or more, when compared to the directed approach" (emphasis mine).
Hold on to that piece of information; I'll explain its relevance to your life and your issues in a minute. But before I do, let me tell you about a second experiment, this time conducted at the University of Redlands in 1951.
A group of 45 volunteers with a range of physical and mental issues were divided into three groups, of 15 people each. The first was called: 'Just-Plain-Psychology'; the second: 'Just-Plain-Prayer'; and the last group was called: 'Prayer Therapy Group'.
In the first group, no-one mentioned religion or prayer, it was just straight-up psychotherapy, as the patients in this group had indicated they wanted.
In the second group, no-one mentioned therapy. It consisted of a bunch of practicing Xtians, who already thought they knew how to pray, and that prayer was all they needed to get well. This group spent every night for 9 months praying that God would cure them of their specific illness, or emotional problem (emphasis mine).
The last group combined two-hour weekly prayer sessions with psychological testing. Each week, participants in this group got an envelope telling them about a negative aspect of their personality that the therapists had identified, and asked them to pray on eliminating it.
After nine months, the results of the experiment were as follows:
Just Therapy Group: 65% improvement.
Just Prayer Group: No improvement.
Prayer and Psychological Testing: 72% improvement.
These results puzzled and even disturbed many 'religious' people at the time - but if you're a student of Rabbi Shalom Arush, (or if you've already done JEMI's 'Talk to God and Fix Your Health' course) they make perfect sense.
The first thing to remember is what you just learned above, namely that you can't force God to give you exactly what you want. That's why non-directed prayer - where you prayer for your general good, as opposed to a specific outcome - is far more effective than asking for something concrete.
The second thing to remember is that God only sends us our illnesses as a wake-up call, to get us to change, or fix, something in ourselves, lives, relationships or beliefs.
Groups I and III were actively working on themselves, albeit in different ways, and were making changes in response to their illness or issue. To put it another way, a large majority of them successfully got the message God was sending them via their illness, so the illness itself become surplus to Divine requirements.
By contrast, Group 2 weren't working on anything, or apparently willing to change anything - so to a man (or woman…), their illnesses and issues remained the same at the end of the nine months, as they had been at the beginning.
In addition, this group was praying specifically for God to take away their illness or issue (which is 'directed' prayer), as opposed to asking God to do whatever was best for them ('non-directed prayer').
So what can you learn from all these scientific experiments about what really works, when it comes to praying for your health and wellness? Let's try to sum it up:
1) Don't ask God to 'take away' your specific health problem ('directed' prayer); instead, ask God to do whatever's best for you ('non-directed' prayer);
2) Be prepared to change something in yourself or your life if you want to get well - because the illness is only coming to give you a message. Once you get the message - and act on it - 9 times out of 10, the physical and / or emotional illness will vanish by itself.
3) Prayer really works - and its success rate is often much greater than more conventional therapeutic techniques and approaches.
But only once you really know how to do it properly.
