More and more of us are starting to wake up to the fact that the information we consume may have just as much of an impact on our mental and physical health than the food and other substances we’re ingesting.
There are a lot of similarities between the way we consume food, and the way we ‘consume’ information online.
The healthier, more wholesome sources of information and help on the net can truly help us to nourish ourselves spiritual, and can feed the appetite we have for information and advice in a fulfilling, positive way.
Those are the sites that are routinely useful and calming, without trying to ‘hard sell’ you anything, rope you in to anything, scare the pants off you about anything. In short, about 2% of the sites you’ll find online (maximum).
SO MANY YUCKY SITES OUT THERE...
Then, there’s the other end of the spectrum - the sites that are encouraging and promoting the worst types of behavior in humanity, like online porn, DIY build-your-own bomb sites, sites encouraging teenagers to commit suicide, of people to gamble their life-savings and homes away online.
These sites are more like crack cocaine than foodstuffs, because even evil substances like MSG don’t really come close to the damage viewing sites like this can do to a person’s psyche and overall sense of health and wellbeing.
Thank God I’m not in that world, and I have a couple of strong filters to try to help me stay out of that online version of hell on earth, so I have no idea what percentage of the internet these types of sites account for. But sadly, it’s a lot.
And then, there’s all the sites that are in between, ranging from mildly helpful but still a complete waste of time, through to sites full of profane language and demeaning behaviors that aren’t quite illegal, but are still really, really awful.
In so many ways, the world would be a better place without the internet, but for now we’re stuck with it - at least, if we want to pay our bills, find out what’s going on in our kids’ schools and be able to buy things conveniently or make cheap calls abroad.
(And of course, if we need to work on it, which is the biggest reason I’m still stuck in front of a screen much more than I’d like to be.)
HELPFUL GUIDELINES TO REGULATE WHAT WE CONSUME ONLINE
So then, how can we ensure we’re consuming more of what’s good for us, and much less of what isn’t?
I was pondering this myself, and I’ve come up with a few guidelines that are helping me tremendously, and that BH will also help you too to ensure that more of the ‘wholesome’ and healthy sites are making it into your daily internet diet.
It’s very useful to approach the internet as you would food.
The first thing to do is to divide your internet use into two categories: necessary and unnecessary.
Necessary is work, paying bills, checking PTA notices, printing off a Google map etc - anything that has to be done, and that can only be done online.
Consider this to be your internet staples, the bread and butter of your time online.
Next, take a look at your unnecessary list.
This is where the real work can begin, in two stages. Stage 1 is to divide these sites into ‘helpful’ and ‘unhelpful’ sites. The definition of ‘helpful’ I’m using here is very simple:
does it make you feel cheerful, filled-up and inspired, when you read it? Does it give you real, practical information you can use in your real life, or just panic-inducing superficial soundbytes?
It can be hard to figure out what site is ‘helpful’ and what isn’t, especially initially, because so many of the unhelpful sites are actually strongly addictive, so we get an initial burst of ‘great’ when we log-on, but that feeling tends to sour very quickly.
CHEMICALLY ADDICTIVE, OR REALLY ENJOYABLE?
Again, it’s useful to use a food analogy. Sometimes, we just need that bar of chocolate, that scoop of ice-cream, especially if we’re using it as a coping mechanism or a form of self-soothing. An occasional splurge on sites that aren’t ‘crack cocaine’ is fine, and won’t kill anyone.
But if all you’re doing online is consuming the internet equivalent of candy bars and big bottles of coke? Then sooner or later you’re going to start feeling very, very ill, mentally and spiritually.
So for now, go slow, and just pay attention to how you really feel after you’ve read a site. What sites do you look forward to, and why? What sites are ‘addictive’, what sites do you feel compelled to read almost against your will - the same way a binge eater just has to raid the fridge late or night, or finish every crumb of the gateau?
This stage can take a few weeks or even months, so don’t rush it, and treat yourself very nicely while you’re going through this process of trying to streamline your internet intake. No guilt trips, no beating yourself up, no harsh judgments about your viewing habits.
Just plenty of self-compassion, patience and asking God for help to show you what’s going on and why.
GIVE UNHELPFUL SITES THE HEAVE-HO
Once you’ve really managed to pin-down the helpful and unhelpful sites, you can move on to the next stage: block the unhelpful sites.
Now, don’t panic! I’m not saying you can never, ever, ever see that particularly poisonous Facebook page you’re addicted to. All I’m saying is list your unhelpful sites with something like ‘Block Site’, which is a free add-on for Chrome users.
You can change the settings on it at anytime, so if your urge to splurge online gets too much for you (it happens…) you can indulge it for 5 minutes, remember why you blocked that site in the first place, and return back to your healthy internet diet.
Go HERE to download the BLOCK SITE plug-in for Chrome, and let me know how you get on.
I installed it last week, and I’m already noticing that my internet habits have got so much better. Little
by little, I’m spending much less time online, and more time in my ‘real’ life doing ‘real’ things with real people that really bring me more pleasure and contentment.
A last tip for the news addicts out there (I’m also one, which is how I know all this stuff about you…): block the images on the news sites you regularly visit, and you find you’ll be able to get your ‘news fix’ much faster, without disappearing down the latest bit of eye-candy’s appealing cleavage.
Again, try this for yourself, but blocking the pictures made a huge, huge difference to the pulling power these sites had on me - and I’m a lady!
So here’s to your healthy internet use, and BH, one day we’ll be able to go back to sending snail mail letters, reading magazines printed on proper paper and interacting with people in person again.
I, for one, can’t wait.
Before we begin, just to note, I will be writing a whole bunch more about how internet and smartphone technology and programming can negatively affect human health, across all three levels of body, mind and soul. Getting educated about the real dangers involved with the internet is a huge part of finding the inner strength and resolve necessary to start to implement some of the practical things I’m talking about below.
But this post is much more about easy, practical things you can do right now to start to reclaim your happiness, brain and eye-balls from the internet. So, let’s begin:
STAGE 1: LEARN MORE ABOUT THE DANGERS OF BEING ‘PLUGGED IN’ 24/7
As mentioned, I’ve started to write up this stuff here on spiritualselfhelp.org, and a few good places to start the education process about how human health really works are the following articles:
The main things to bear in mind is that human biology is enormously affected by exposure to electromagnetic frequencies and energy waves. Every electric appliance - from the simple lightbulb on up - emits some sort of energy.
Some things ‘vibrate’ at a frequency that is very close to the innate vibration of the human body, and these things can have the biggest effect on our hormones, biological functioning and brain waves.
Guess what? Internet, TV, FM radio and cell-phones all vibrate in a range that effectively turns the human body into a living ‘antenna’, and can potentially severely disrupt our bio-cycles and brainwaves on just about every level.
This can lead to a whole bunch of negative mental and physical health issues including:
And all this is really just the tip of the iceberg! I am working on getting more and more of the science together to solidly back these statements up, but in the meantime, you can sum it up like this:
The more time we spend online, the greater the potential risks to our mental and physical health.
And that goes double for our kids, whose brains are still developing and getting ‘hardwired’.
So learning about how human health really works, and the real effects of internet and smart-phone use on human physiology is stage 1.
Some books you may want to read on the subject include:
STAGE 2: FOCUS ON MINIMISING THE SMARTPHONE USE FIRST
Smartphones are particularly problematic because as THIS article shows, where a simple cell phone only emits the problematic energy waves when a person is actually talking on it, smartphones emit this potentially dangerous energy ALL THE TIME, even when you’re just carrying it around in your purse or pocket.
Smartphones also enable addiction to the internet in a much more drastic way, because we take them around with us everywhere, and so we can get stuck checking our emails, or news sites, literally every couple of minutes.
So the first priority is to try to get the smartphone use down as much as possible.
Clearly, the best way of doing that is to switch over to a simple phone, and that really might be an option that could work for some people, and especially for children. The more parents stand firm on this issue, the easier it will be for other parents to stop buying their children smartphones.
But many people today feel that they need things like Whatsapp, or that they need to be able to check their emails for work, etc. So what can those people do, to try to minimize the smartphone problem?
Here’s some suggestions:
Again, you can learn far more about tagging by going HERE.
I don’t have a smartphone myself, so if you, dear reader, have any other helpful suggestions for how to minimize its use, please feel free to share your tips in the comments section, below.
STAGE 3: SET LIMITS TO HOW MUCH TIME YOU LET YOURSELF SURF EVERYDAY
One of the best ways of doing this is to oust wi-fi from your home and to use an internet stick instead, so that your computer is not automatically connected to the internet whenever you switch it on.
If that’s not practical - and for a lot of people, especially if they have a lot of people with their own computers in the home who want to be online simultaneously, it isn’t - then explore some of the following programs that let you set times when the wifi signal is turned OFF on your PC, so you can use it without being able to surf:
STAGE 4: MINIMISE VIEWING ON-LINE
The more pernicious effects on a person’s mood and mental state occurs when we actually watch moving images online.
A person who’s reading things on the internet will still be affected by the technology’s energy waves, but far less than a person who’s actually doing things like viewing movies and other video clips.
Images, and particularly moving images, impact our brains in a much more dramatic, and often negative, way. But if you still want to view things you find online, here’s some practical suggestions for how to minimize the problem:
STAGE 5: LOOK TO MOVING MORE OF YOUR LIFE OFF-LINE AND INTO THE REAL WORLD
While I’m sticking this here, as the last stage, it’s really the main way of overcoming internet addiction at its root.
We become addicted to checking the news, or Facebook, or watching movies on Youtube etc because on some level we’re using virtual reality as an escape from our real lives, and in particular, from facing up to our often painful inner reality.
The more frustration, loneliness, self-hatred, repressed feelings, difficult relationships etc a person has - the more time they’ll spend online.
Practically speaking, you might want to consider:
It also requires a strong connection to God, because we only run away from ourselves, and our lives, and our relationships in the first place because we find them so difficult to deal with, and emotionally overwhelming and painful.
We need to firmly hold God’s hand to really have the strength to face up to our ‘reality’, and to accept it, and to deal with it.
Take a look at this book:
The How, what and why of talking to God - for some practical tips on how to start talking to God on a regular basis.
SUMMING THINGS UP:
Minimizing our time online, and particularly our smartphone use, is the main challenge facing our generation, and it’s really a huge problem that realistically can’t be solved overnight.
It’s a good time to point out here that the technology itself is profoundly addictive, and is having an enormous impact on human physiology.
THAT’s why it’s so hard to kick the surfing habit! And what makes this even more complicated is that the industry itself - and the scientific community it funds - is misleading us all about the true dangers involved with the unfettered use of this technology, which is effectively electronic crack.
So, please go easy on yourself, don’t beat yourself up AT ALL if you’re struggling to move things more offline, and keep just asking God, our ‘Higher Power’ for help.
Pick whatever things you think you can do from the list of stuff to try above, and then pat yourself on the back for even just wanting to do things differently. This is an enormous challenge for all of us in 2017, and even a tiny step you take in the right direction can potentially start to change everything around.
Before we continue looking at HOW human health is being impacted by ions and protons and electrons in our environment, I thought it would be useful to give a brief rundown of how our solar system actually works.
For example, every time a comet, or some other foreign body enters our solar system, it will have a profound affect on the electro-magnetic forces acting on the earth itself, and on the people who live here.
Comets are coming into our solar system all the time, from tiny meteors to massive planet-sized bits of electrically charged rock. And all of these extra-terrestial 'visitors' impact you and me, and our health, and our mood, in some way.
Read on to discover the mechanism for how this works.
THE ‘JAMES McCANNEY’ EXPLANATION OF SPACE WEATHER
Independent astro-physicist has developed what he calls the Plasma Discharge Comet Model, which explained the following:
The key point to remember from this section is that the solar system is dynamically electric - and NOT electrically ‘neutral’, as NASA claims - and that comets interact with the sun, and the earth, and every other planet / moon / body out there in an ELECTRIC fashion.
HOW COMETS AFFECT SPACE WEATHER - AND HUMAN HEALTH
As mentioned above, whenever an object enters our solar system, it starts to interact, electrically, with the sun, the moon, planet earth, and everything else to be found in our particular corner of space.
All of these interactions lead to changes in the earth's electro-magnetic field, in the solar wind, and in the amount of radiation bombarding planet earth. In turn, this will affect our health and outlook in the ways I've been describing in previous posts. But here's what's going on from a 'space weather' perspective:
1) The sun produces far more ‘electric energy’ than light energy.
2) The earth has a huge, vertical electrical field that is sustained by the sun’s electrical power distribution system. The current of this field is stored in the earth’s ionosphere, and the air in our atmosphere is what’s called ‘dielectric material’.
3) Usually, the earth’s magnetic field protects us and buffers us from the sun’s energy. When the electrical conditions in our solar system start to change rapidly, as the result of an additional ‘body’ starting to engage the sun and increase the amount of ‘charge’ going into and out of the the ‘solar battery’, the electrical fields and currents that we’re subject to down here on planet earth start to go haywire as the sun discharges more, and greater, solar flares.
4) When something like a large comet approaches our solar system, as soon as it reaches the outer edge of the planets, the solar system’s ‘electricity’ starts to ratchet up to much higher levels.
5) More electrification = more energy in the earth’s atmosphere and the earth’s oceans = more evaporation of water = more ‘haze’ in the atmosphere. In turn, this triggers off a bunch of ‘climate change’ phenomena like:
7) Our earth’s magnetic field is made up of many layers, some of which are ‘stable’, but most of which are variable, and highly affected by what’s occurring in the atmosphere around them.
8) The variable part of the magnetic field can be temporarily reversed, or ‘flipped’, for short periods of time as a result of massive solar storms and / or comets passing very close by to the earth.
9) Every planet / moon / comet / object in the solar system generates some sort of ‘magnetic field’ as a result of its electrical interaction with the sun, including our own moon. That’s why new moons have the biggest impact on the earth’s weather (and on living organisms, as previously explained.)
10) Planet earth’s magnetic field diverts the ‘solar wind’ - that current of electrically charged photons that’s constantly streaming our way from the sun - from the planet.
11) The closer a comet of size comes to the sun, the more electrical discharge starts to happen, which causes more energy in the solar atmosphere, leading to more and stronger solar flares, which in turn can affect or alter the earth’s magnetic field structure - leading to crazy weather, climate change phenomena, and even crazier people.
In case you're wondering what this really has to do with you, the answer is: TONS!!!!
For example, just a couple of days' ago on July 8th, there was a big solar flare that instantly hit the earth with tons more ionising radiation than we usually get.
(Take a look at the video below:)
As well as causing atmospheric changes that are relatively easy to pick up - i.e. skin burns faster and deeper in the sun, even though it doesn't FEEL particularly hot or dangerous - as we've been learning here on spiritualselfhelp, these peaks and changes in the subtle electro-magnetic balance of our planet also directly affects the bio-electrical signals of the human body.
We've seen that after solar flares and solar storms, there's huge rises in depression and attempted suicides - but that's only what's been measured and recognized. The real links between 'space weather' and human health and outlook are still really being ignored or deliberately missed.
So if you were feeling a bit peaky on Saturday July 8, or a bit unwell, or a bit 'down' - it could well boil down to the effects of that extra radiation in the solar wind playing havoc with your internal bio-electricity.
Mind-blowing, isn't it!
If you've ever learned about Chinese meridians, the 14 main energy pathways in the body that are used to anticipate, diagnose and cure illness in Chinese Medicine, then you'll know one of those meridians is called 'Triple Warmer'. (Sometimes, it's called 'Triple Burner', just to confuse things.)
Together with the spleen meridian, Triple Warmer is responsible for taking care of your immune system.
Where spleen meridian takes care of your health by encouraging you to feel happy, nurtured and cared for, Triple Warmer is like the body's police force: whenever it identifies something as 'the enemy', it can mobilise energy from every part of the body, except the heart, to deal with the emergency.
Triple Warmer causes the 'fight, flight or freeze' reaction
Whenever you have a 'fight, flight or freeze' reaction, that's Triple Warmer kicking in. And we're not just talking about physical or physiological reactions, although feeling hot, shaky, headache-y, stressed (and a few other hundred things besides) are all physiological 'Triple Warmer' reactions to perceived danger and stress.
Triple Warmer is also pulling the strings psychologically.
When you get into a rage fit - that's Triple Warmer, telling you that you need to go into 'fight' mode to be safe. When you have a big decision to make and you're paralysed with anxiety and worry - that's Triple Warmer. When you have to face something, or someone, or take responsibility for something difficult or unpleasant - and instead you run away - that's a Triple Warmer reaction.
Kabbalistically-speaking, the Triple Warmer appears to be the energetic home or the 'evil inclination', that in-born propensity to act in less than ideal ways, which Carl Jung and other therapists tried to define as 'the shadow self'.
The more you understand how your Triple Warmer works, energetically, and how to calm it down, the easier you'll start to find it to keep your temper, overcome your fear, and to stop reacting from a place of instinct and merciless self-preservation.
How the evil inclination and the Triple Warmer are similar
Judaism teaches that we have our evil inclination from birth, but we only start to get our inclination for good at the age of majority, which is 12 for a girl and 13 for a body - and even then, it takes years for this more mature 'good' side to really develop.
Physically, our primitive survival functions, like breathing, food, sleep are all taken care of by the hypothalamus - the same part of the brain that controls Triple Warmer.
This 'lower brain' of ours is in the driving seat from the moment we are born. If we receive the right nurturing, love and care from our parents, Triple Warmer calms down, and learns that the world is usually a safe place. It's not so reactive, or so primed for danger, which means that the person is much less angry, impulsive and scared, amongst other things.
But when a person doesn’t receive adequate love and nurturing from their caregivers, and G-d forbid, even has the opposite - then Triple Warmer is on the mega-defensive, practically from day one.
Triple Warmer can also get hyped-up be environmental 'threats'
Let's also add into the mix that Triple Warmer also reacts to environmental 'threats', like chemicals in food, chemicals generally, electromagnet energy (ie, the vibes your mobile, PC and microwaves are emitting) and stress.
When you take all this together, you can see why most people's Triple Warmers are so over-reactive today. In fact, Triple Warmers that can no longer differentiate between 'friend' and 'foe' are a key factor in why so many people today have allergies and autoimmune illnesses that were practically unheard of a century ago.
There are things you can do to start taking Triple Warmer off alert, and I'll hope to share some of them with you over the next few posts.
The following things will help to start solving the problem of personality disorders, and particularly the lack of empathy and compassion that characterises them, at the body, or energetic level:
1) Identify and deal with deep-seated traumas - using Energy Psychology techniques, bodywork methods including massage and kinesiology, and prayer. 'Talk Therapy' doesn't work for personality disorders, as there is mental disconnect that prevents Cluster B people from acknowledging their own wrong-doing. Admitting something needs to change is the starting point for any process of teshuva, transformation and growth.
2) Cut out the Junk - especially food additives and MSG.
3) Minimise environmental pollutions and chemicals - stop bleaching the toilet every day! (If you can smell the bleach, of floor cleaner, or fabric softener, that means your body is in the process of dealing with all those 'bleach toxins' that have just made it in to your system).
4) Limit your screen time; try to set boundaries with your mobile phone use, and chuck out your microwave and TV. Microwaves, computer screen, TV signals and FM radio all emit signals in the 50-60 MHZ range, that has been linked in a number of scientific experiments to some serious, and potentially catastrophic negative bio-electromagnetic outcomes in the human body (ie, they can cause serious, potentially terminal diseases, God forbid).
But as well as messing up your physical health, they can also seriously disrupt other physiological processes including hormones, bio-rhythyms and emotions - and take out your spleen energy in the process.
5) Minimise stress, and learn to deal with it better. Physically, that means learning energy medicine techniques to take your Triple Warmer meridian off high-alert (Triple Warmer governs the fight / flight / freeze response.) Emotionally, that means developing good emotional health habits. (JEMI free 'Talk to God and Fix Your Health' course can show you how). Spiritually, that means working on your connection to God, and talking to Him daily about all the stuff that's going on in your life.
6) Learn how to deal with your negative emotions in a healthy way, instead of letting them fester. The fastest way to start doing this is JEMI's free Talk to God course, that will teach you the 3 foundations of emotional health, and also give you practical tools to help you to defuse your subconscious emotional 'buttons' at every level of body, mind and soul. (Sign up for it HERE)
7) Minimise your contact with negative people - they're taking your spleen energy (aka, your ability to feel compassion and empathy for others, including yourself) out with every single interaction you have with them.
8) Strengthen spleen! JEMI's free Basic Guide to Strengthening Your Energy Meridians LINK will tell you everything you need to know to get started.
9) Apply as much of the above as you can to your children. If your baby had a difficult, traumatic birth, for example, make a habit of tracing their meridians every day (or at the very least, their spleen meridian), to get their system strengthened and back up to par.
Home cook more of their food; find ways to stop them spending so much online, or zoned-out watching videos. Fill your home with positivity, and work on your own negative emotions. As we learned, if you still feel angry at your kid, even if you're not telling them, they can feel it - and you're literally sending them 'negative vibes' that are taking out their spleen energy.
I know this is so hard, and we aren't angels. But whatever little moves we make in the right direction, God will build them into some hugely positive changes and improvements.
As we're going to learn in the next few sections, so much of what's causing the huge increase in Personality Disorders is really out of our hands, and more a matter of modern life and very deep spiritual considerations. So do your bit, and pray a lot, but DON'T BLAME YOURSELF.
Keep reading, because next, we're going to look at how to deal with personality disorders on the emotional level.
In the last post, we started to set out the broad idea that reconnecting people to their emotions by strengthening their spleen meridian is a key energetic approach to tackling personality disorders.
So now, let's find out how you actually do that!
Let's remind ourselves of what takes Spleen energy out, and then most of the solutions will automatically fall into place without a lot more explanation.
To strengthen spleen, the first thing to do is avoid all the stuff that's weakening it. (NB: These are lonnnngggg explanations, so I'm splitting them into a number of different posts.)
1) Trauma - In the secular world, the prevailing theory is that personality disorders are caused by some sort of serious traumatic experience, or experiences, in early childhood. They're right - at least partially - but the trauma doesn't have to be mental and emotional. It could also be physical (ie, a difficult birth, or a serious illness), or spiritual (ie, connected to previous lives and experiences that haven't yet been 'fixed' at the soul level. The Holocaust is a prime example of a spiritual trauma still requiring rectification, on some level.).
What this means, practically, is that the best parents in the world could still end up with a personality disordered child, through no fault of their own. I'll come back to this topic in a separate post, but the traumatic somatic memory / PTSD has to be released, energetically, from the physical location in the body, and the 'traumatic' connection in the primitive brain also has to be rewired, energetically.
2) Junk Food - Fast food and junk food is saturated with chemicals and nerve-destroying poisons like MSG. The meridian responsible for metabolising food is - Spleen! When your spleen is labouring away, trying to dispose of all the nasty stuff contained in your bottle of cola, it gets over-worked, and weak. Healthy, easy-to-digest food gives Spleen a break, and frees up more energy to deal with things like processing negative emotions in a healthy way..
3) Chemicals and environmental pollutants - Soaps, shampoos, toothpaste, washing powder - they all contain chemicals that really can and do weaken human beings by overloading our systems with toxic materials that are surplus to requirement, and need to be processed and removed. A few meridians are involved in this process, especially kidney, liver and our old friend, spleen.
Again, it's a post for another time, but when liver meridian is overwhelmed, people start beating themselves up and fundamentally hating themselves (another key trait of personality disordered people, especially narcissists). When kidney meridian is weak, then fear is the order of the day - and one of the big reasons why people with Cluster B personality disorders always try to brazen things out is because deep down, they fear being exposed as anything less than 100% perfect and wonderful.
(Check out the JEMI Tool that let's you link specific meridians to specific negative emotions by clicking HERE.)
That fear is visceral, debilitating and cuts to the core of 'Cluster B' people. They will do anything they can to avoid it, including lying, indulging in infamous 'narcissistic rage' attacks (where they go on the attack, viciously, in order to preserve their own super-fragile sense of perfect self), projecting their problems on to you, playing the victim - and a few other things besides.
Being on the receiving end of these manipulations, lies and rage fits is incredibly unpleasant (to put it mildly). But the underlying issue is FEAR. Anything that takes the narcissist's fear down, energetically, will help. (I'll discuss this in more detail when we get to the discussion about the Triple Warmer meridian.)
But anything you can do to minimise your exposure to chemicals and environmental pollutants will boost your spleen, kidney and liver meridians. It's also worth mentioning here that conventional medications are also very potent, powerful, toxic chemicals, albeit with a therapeutic affect.
Asthma puffs, steroid creams for eczema, even the humble aspirin - they all weaken the spleen, dump a huge toxic load into your system, and weaken your energy and immune system.
Hopefully, after you've finished reading this, you're going to see electricity in a completely different light…
A little while back, I finished an excellent book by Robert Becker MD called 'The Body Electric'. Dr Becker spent around three decades researching the effects of electricity, and electric currents on the body.
I hope to write about some of his discoveries in more detail in the future, but the key things that stood out from his research were:
To put this another way, Bob Becker's research was increasingly proving that things like radar waves, FM radio broadcasting frequencies, TV signals, microwaves (from microwave ovens) and the electrical frequencies emitted by computer LED screens were potentially doing some huge damage to human beings.
As he got closer and closer to conclusively proving this, the 'Powers that Be' promptly cut off all further funding for his research projects, effectively forcing Bob Becker into early retirement.
Becker was writing in the 1980s, at the very beginning of the huge technological revolution that's put a PC in every room, and an i-Phone in every hand. If he was worried about what was going on then, with electromagnetism, I shudder to think about what he'd say today.
Already, his research was pointing to the fact that ongoing exposure to electricity - even things as benign as hairdryers, ovens and lightbulbs - was potentially disrupting all sorts of systems in the human body, leading to increases in things like infertility, auto-immune diseases, mental illnesses, and the disease we're all paranoid about, cancer.
And the higher frequencies weren't always the ones causing the bigger problems. The very low frequencies that were closest to the human body's own electrical vibration had far more potential to 'confuse' the body into doing things against it's own best interests
Guess what: we're all subjected to huge amounts of that externally-produced 'low frequency' every second of the day, both at home and at work.
But Government and industry - and even, the medical profession itself - didn't want to know about Becker's misgivings. There was money on the line; there was 'progress' at stake; they weren't going to let some super-ethical scientist spoil the communication revolution by linking it to some very disturbing increases in human illness and disease.
God-willing, I'll write a few more posts over the next few weeks describing some of Becker's more fundamental points, and what it actually means practically, for you and your health, because there are some huge, and hugely surprising findings in the book that could transform the way you relate to maintaining your health.
But for now, I just wanted to mention that Jews have known for millennia that electricity, or 'chashmal', as it's called in Hebrew, may well be one of the keys to understanding creation.
At the beginning of the book of Ezekiel (Yehezkel, in Hebrew), the prophet describes his vision of the Heavenly Throne, a subject so lofty that not even the holiest Sages could really work it out (or at least, tell us about it). There, the word 'Chashmal' is mentioned multiple times in connection with God's glory- and there's a lot of electricity in the text, too, with Ezekiel talking about 'lightning' and 'flashes' and the 'appearance of brilliance' and 'fire'.
Do I know what it all means?
But what I can tell you is that electricity, in all its forms, is probably the single biggest impactor of human health, both for good and bad.
It can unleash the power of growth, healing and renewal in the human body, and it can also unleash the power of chaos, destruction and death.
So understanding electricity, and the role it plays in our health, is hugely important. But so is the recognition that not all electricity is created equal: the more 'holy chashmal' we have, the better it will go for us, and vice-versa.
Maybe, when our holy rabbis of generations past forbid TV viewing, internet use and mobile phones, they had a much deeper understanding of the true effects of electricity on human beings. It could be that even purely on the physical side of things, our rabbis were light years' ahead of the scientists, and had a much greater grasp of the 'big picture', scientifically, as well as spiritually, for all they were painted as being 'backwards' and 'primitive' by the enthusiastic proponents of the modern age.
It really makes you think, doesn't it?
