I’m taking a break from posting about ‘Electric People’, as I haven’t got time over the Summer holidays, with the kids home, to do all the research required for the next chapter. It will return soon, BH!
In the meantime, I just wanted to share what’s been going on with my eye, which kind of underlines why I started exploring a more ‘spiritual self-help’ approach to mental and physical health in the first place.
For as long as I can remember, conventional medicine just hasn’t worked for me. Whether it’s been big problems, smaller problems, whenever I’ve turned to a conventional doctor, they never really had a solution that resolved my problems - and not for lack of trying.
Up until a few years’ back, I dutifully did whatever the medical experts told me - and usually not only did it not help, there were occasions when it even made things worse.
That’s when I started going down the more ‘alternative’ route, and initially, being super-fanatical about the food I was eating made a huge difference…
But not all the difference. And over time, the same health issues reappeared again, regardless of whether I was eating my sprouted spelt bread and drinking a green smoothie every day.
That’s when I started to realize that something else is going on here, when it comes to human health.
If the ‘problem’, whatever it is, is really only at the body level of a person - that they’re aren’t sleeping enough or eating enough vits, etc - then doing things at the ‘body’ level will resolve the problem.
It should be noted here that conventional medicine ONLY deals with health issues - bizarrely, even emotional and mental health issues - at the level of the body, and often in such a clumsy way, their ‘solution’ can end up causing more damage than the original problem.
But there are two more stages of the human experience that also profoundly impact our health, too, namely our mind, mental state and emotions, and our soul, or spiritual connection to God.
If ‘the health problem’, whatever it is, is actually rooted in either the mental / emotional or spiritual realms, then just tackling it at the level of the body simply isn’t going to work.
And that’s why conventional medicine really doesn’t work for me. Now that I eat well enough, and I exercise enough, and I sleep enough, there’s really nothing else to do on that front. All my health issues - yes, I’m talking about my physical health issues here - are rooted in negative states of mind, unhelpful subconscious processes and spiritual unfinished business.
No pill is going to help me get over the anger that’s causing my inner tension, headaches and eye strain.
Only changing my attitudes and behaviors (with a little help from God…), and really understanding why I’m angry in the first place, can do that.
Again, if the problem is rooted in the physical realm, then a physical response or medication will help to clear it up. But if it isn’t, or if some of the problem at least is rooted in mental / emotional and / or spiritual stuff, then taking a solely physical approach simply isn’t going to work to curing it.
And that’s why conventional medicine really doesn’t work for me - and that’s also why it’s increasingly not working for a whole bunch of other people, too.
Finally, we’ve arrived at the core post of this whole journey: how to properly acknowledge, tackle and ultimately overcome C-PTSD.
If you’ve been following this blog for a while, you’ll know that the spiritual self-help approach to mental and physical health issues always need to tackle the problem across the three levels of:
Most of the posts I’ve written about C-PTSD have been focussing on the mind / emotions level, but let’s see if we can now pull everything together to give a clear picture of how you can tackle C-PTSD,
and with God’s help, eventually overcome it.
TIPS TO TACKLE C-PTSD AT THE BODY LEVEL
The key thing to remember here is that traumatised people are physically very stressed and tense people.
The more primitive parts of their brain is continually sending them messages that the world is a scary, threatening, dangerous place, which means:
HOW TO CALM DOWN A C-PTSD BODY:
NOTE: If someone experienced any form of physical abuse, then even touch can be a very triggering event for them. In these situations, ‘pet therapy’, or having a safe bond with a dog, horse, or other ‘loving’ animal can be an important first step to desensitising the C-PTSD body to physical touch.
(Click the blue for more details and / or information for how to do each of these things):
Other things to try include:
HOW TO CALM DOWN A C-PTSD MIND / EMOTIONS
We’ve covered this a great deal over the last few posts, but let’s pull it all together now.
HOW TO CALM DOWN A C-PTSD SOUL
But that’s not all! Taking the time to centre and ground yourself every day, and to talk to God about everything that’s going on in your life also strengthens the functioning of your frontal lobes, which acts like the ‘brake’ on your more primitive impulses and feelings.
The stronger your frontal lobes get, the harder it is for your primitive brain to ‘hijack’ you and send you spinning off into an emotional flashback. So the more you talk to God, the safer you’ll feel, the more ‘in control’ of yourself you’ll feel, and the easier you’ll find it to ride out and overcome the five C-PTSD reactions listed in the previous section.

Thanks for the question!
Existential depression happens when we get disconnected from our spiritual side, and our true purpose in life, and from God (sorry, I said the 'G' word...)
When life is framed in term of material achievement, then it can be precisely when we achieve that materialistic pinnacle of success that we suddenly realize that it's not all it's cracked up to be, and it didn't really solve our problems.
That's why so many of the materially 'successful' people in life commit suicide, go mad, or retreat into substance abuse (sometimes covertly, other times in a very obvious way.)
They won the lottery - and it still didn't take away that gnawing feeling that life is empty and meaningless.
So what does?
The following things:
By contrast, when we make an effort to decode the hints that God is sending us via all the different facets of our interactions and experiences, absolutely everything in life becomes meaningful, because we know it's a tailor-made message from God, about something we need to work on, change or fix.
When people live with the reality that this world is just a temporary corridor, and that the real successes and achievements are the internal ones - like overcoming things like our anger, jealousy, ingratitude and hatred (OK, I have many more things to work on, on my own list, but hey, I have to keep some of my dignity...) - THEN the existential depression finally disappears, even if the 'externals' are not so good, or even downright bad.

Usually, we start to feel that way when we’re not living the sort of life we really should be, or spending our time in a way that makes us feel happy to be alive.
The first thing I’d check is your job:
Are you doing what you want, or what you somehow got coerced into doing by other people, or settling for because what you really wanted to do seemed out of reach?
If you don’t wake up raring to go to work more often than not, then you are probably in the wrong job.
The next thing I’d check is your relationships:
Are you spending time with generous, thoughtful, caring, committed people, or are your relationships more superficial, competitive and challenging?
This article can help you start to tell the difference:
7 negative people
If you are spending too much time with people who ‘take’ and don’t ‘give’ much back, then you should re-evaluate your relationships and try to find a different crowd.
If you have a ‘key’ relationship in your life that’s very draining or challenging, then that also needs to be recognized, acknowledged and worked on, if it’s robbing you of your joie de vivre.
Next, I’d check your overall lifestyle and health choices:
Are you eating properly? Getting enough sleep? Exercising sufficiently? Or, doing recreational drugs, or spending too much time online? All of these things can seriously compromise your energy levels, motivation and mood.
You can find out more in my book, Causes and Cures of Depression.
And also take a look at this post:
3 pronged approach to beating depression.
Last, can you answer the question: ‘what’s the point of being alive?’
If you have a good answer, that by itself will start to energize you and motivate you. If you don’t have a good answer, that’s the first place to start, as feeling aimless and purposeless will continue to drag you down internally, even if the external circumstances of your life are amazing.

So, what’s the ‘big idea’ behind 49 Days?
Well, it’s like this: God created the world via 10 ‘worlds’ or spheres of energy, that are commonly referred to in the Jewish mystical tradition, (a.k.a. Kabbalah) as Sefirot.
According to the Kabbalah, these 10 sefirot are split into three higher ones, and seven lower ones – and the seven lower ones are associated with a whole bunch of different things, including the main ‘attributes’, or character traits, that us human beings are meant to work on and perfect.
There are different ideas as to what each of these seven Sefirot are actually referring to.
My take on what these seven attributes are telling us to work on is as follows:
Traditionally, the best time to work on perfecting these seven attributes / worlds / character traits is considered to be the 49 days between Passover, and the Jewish festival of Shavuot, that occurs exactly seven weeks’ later.
Now, this is where the 49 Days interactive journal can come in, because each day it will spell out what particular character traits need some work, and give you an exercise to do that will really tap-in to the spiritual energy of that day, to get things moving.
The book is meant to be going live on Amazon in the next day or two (and I’ll post up the link when it does), but in the meantime, dear reader, I’m giving you a sneak peek at the first week's pages (checkout the slideshow at the top of the post).
You know, every year for the last three years, I’ve been thinking to myself: ‘wouldn’t it be great if someone would put together some sort of interactive journal, that would take you day-by-day through each step of the 49 days of Counting the Omer, to get the most out of the process, and to really tap in to the spiritual power for growth, change and transformation, that each day represents?’
Well, this year, I finally decided that I should be that ‘someone’ – and miracle of miracles, not only did God help to pull the material together, He also arranged that it should actually be designed and ready to buy this week!
(If you’ve ever published a book yourself, you will know that this process can sometimes take many months, or even years, and even then it can still hit a bunch of ‘bumps’ on the road.)
So without any further ado, let me introduce you to:
49 Days – An Interactive Journal of Self-Development
In the next post, I'll tell you a little more about it, what it can help you to do, in terms of getting to know yourself better, and working out what it is you REALLY want to be doing in life. I'll also give you a sneak peek at some of the pages, as they're full colour and beautifully-designed, to help encourage your creative and spiritual growth processes.
Dear alternative health practitioners,
Next month, on January 31st 2016, BH my new book setting out a God-based holistic health paradigm will be coming out.
It’s called: Talk to God and Fix Your Health: The Real Reasons Why We Get Sick, and How to Stay Healthy.
Now, why am I telling you this?!
Great question! In a nutshell, I need your help to get the book some attention on Amazon. There is a much greater chance of people noticing the book if it has 25+ reviews on its launch date of Jan 31st.
So here’s what I’m offering: In return for your short and honest review being posted up on Amazon on Jan 31st, I will send you a FREE PDF copy via email to read right now.
If you’re interested, please get in touch with me at: firstname.lastname@example.org
Why ‘Talk to God and Fix Your Health’ can help you, your practice and your clients:
>>> It sets out the God-based holistic health framework very clearly, so that your clients will start to realize that good health depends on all 3 levels of their body, mind and soul.
Now, how does that help you, as an alternative health practitioner?
The book is out Jan 31, 2016, BH.
The more people in the alternative health community who know that health requires a 3 pronged approach across body, mind and soul, the more people will seek out holistic health practitioners to help them figure out and fix the real, underlying problems, which is a win/win for everyone.
So if you’d like a FREE review copy, please get in touch and I’ll pop one in the email to you ASAP.
Thanks for your time, and I really hope to hear from you,
PS: Don’t forget, just email me at: email@example.com and I’ll send the FREE PDF copy of ‘Talk to God and Fix Your Health’ over to you straight away!
PPS: You can pre-order the book online at Amazon at this link:
PRE-ORDER TALK TO GOD ON AMAZON
So, with a couple more book launches imminent, BH, with ‘Talk to God and Fix Your Health’ officially out Jan 31, 2016 (click the link to pre-order) and ‘How your emotions are making you sick’ out Feb 15, 2016 (click the link to pre-order), the penny had dropped that no-one really know what the heck ‘JEMI’ is.
I hate all the marketing stuff, I really do, but what I hate even more is the idea that no-one is going to find this website, or hear about my books, because they have no idea what a ‘JEMI’ is – is it a screwdriver? A new type of candy? Something like the Heimlich maneuver?
So last week, I took the plunge and I’ve bought a new domain name for this website, called: www.spiritualselfhelp.org.
I’m not planning any enormous changes to the site, but it’s really just a heads-up that over time, I’ll be referring less and less to the Jewish Emotional Health Institute, and more and more to ‘spiritual self-help’, because that really sums up what this site is all about, and no-one will mistake it for something you can buy in Walmart.
As always, I’m very happy to get your feedback and ideas about what you’d like to see more of on the site, or less of, and how I can best help you with your health-related issues, questions and ideas.
Give me feedback, people!
Drop me a line to: firstname.lastname@example.org, or leave me a comment.
And I look forward to sharing more ‘spiritual self-help’ stuff with you in the future.
